Fire Breaks Out In 75-Storey Dubai Tower Block
Multiple storeys of the Sulafa Tower in the Marina district have been damaged by the flames, sending smoke into the air.
Firefighters have tackled a blaze in a 75-storey residential skyscraper in Dubai, the fifth skyscraper fire in the United Arab Emirates in recent years.
It appears to have started about half way up the Sulafa Tower in the Marina district, before spreading to other parts of the building.
A vertical line of flames was seen emerging from one side of the tower, sending acrid smoke into the air.
Pieces of the building's facade fell off and tumbled downwards, with some reportedly landing in nearby swimming pools.
Local resident Nora Maki said the flames "spread like wildfire", adding that firefighters "did an amazing job" of bringing them under control.
The Dubai Media Office tweeted that no casualties had been reported and said the fire had been extinguished three hours after it started.
It is the fifth fire in a skyscraper in the United Arab Emirates in recent years. The most notable one happened on New Year's Eve, when a huge blaze engulfed a 63-storey luxury hotel.
That blaze ran up at least 20 storeys of the Address Downtown hotel near the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper.
In February, another blaze gutted a high-rise in the Marina district, destroying luxury flats in the Torch tower and prompting the authorities to evacuate nearby blocks.
